Chapter 2: Classified Pay Plan
2.1 Purpose and Applicability
2.1.1 The University shall maintain and administer a classified pay plan for classified positions to reflect the current duties, responsibilities, and work requirements.
2.1.2 This policy is applicable to all classified employees of the University.
2.2 The Classified Pay PLan
The Office of Human Resources will maintain an institutional classified pay plan as required by Regents’ Rules and Regulations, Rule 30101, Classified Personnel Pay Plan and defined by UTS Policy 133: Classified Pay Plan. The Classified Pay Plan will include all required elements set forth in Section 4 of UTS Policy 133: Classified Pay Plan. It will provide a framework for the assignment of job titles, job codes, job descriptions, Fair Labor Standards Act, Equal Employment Opportunity categories, salary grades and ranges to be made available on the University website.
2.3 Definitions
Classified Pay Plan: A structure for placing classified positions into occupational families, which provides a framework for the assignment of job titles, job class codes, Fair Labor Standards Act categories, Equal Employment Opportunity codes, salary grades, and ranges.
Classified Job Titles: A title assigned to describe the work performed and the relative level of a position, subject to the salary administration and classification guidelines of and included in the Classified Pay Plan. Official class job titles will be used in all personnel, accounting, budget appropriation, and financial records.
Classified Position: Positions that do not entail significant instructional responsibilities or responsibilities for the administration of instructional or research organization, with similar qualifications, requirements, and level of responsibility that are grouped together in occupational job families which, when organized hierarchically, create a classified pay plan structure.
Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Code: The numeric code assigned to each job title based on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) job-group definitions.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Category: The designation of a job that indicates whether it is exempt from, or subject to, the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Job Codes: The unique numeric or alpha-numeric designation that is assigned to a specific job title, occupational group, or title series within the occupational group to which the title is assigned.
Job Description: A summary of major duties and critical tasks that identifies the minimum qualifications such as education, experience, competencies, and certifications required for a classification. Preferred qualifications may also be included.
Salary Ranges: The span from minimum to maximum that constitutes a pay or salary grade established for a particular job or job code, and may include a midpoint.
