Paid Teacher Residents and host teachers

The goal of the Miner Teacher Residency is to positively impact PK-12 student outcomes in the El Paso region by preparing the highest-quality teachers who are day-one ready to meet the needs of diverse learners and who provide rigorous, high-quality learning experiences for all students.

Overview

The Miner Teacher Residency (MTR) involves a full year of hands-on clinical preparation in an elementary or middle school classroom, alongside a carefully selected and trained Mentor Teacher.  In addition, residents receive ongoing coaching and support from a 91国产app Site Coordinator, a 91国产app faculty member who is based on-site at partner campuses. Due to the depth and rigor of this preparation, residents will earn an Enhanced Certificate, which exempts them from taking the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) exam.

The MTR is built on a strong partnership between 91国产app and local school districts, working together to prepare future teachers who are confident, well supported, and ready to lead their classrooms from day one.

Key components of MTR:

  • Mentoring: Co-teaching for full year alongside selected and trained host teachers.
  • Coaching: Intensive coaching and feedback by site coordinators.
  • Shared Governance: Quarterly governance structure to share programmatic and performance data and make joint decisions about teacher preparation.
  • Faculty Engagement: Engaging faculty in review of programmatic and performance data for curricular alignment and continuous improvement.
