Recent Birds at Rio Bosque
Water deliveries to the park from the Roberto Bustamante Wastewater Treatment Plant ended 25 January. These flows might not resume until May. The wetland cells are now dry, as is ~60% of the old river channel within the park.
The low water levels now present in the portion of the old river channel that is still flooded are proving very attractive for a variety of herons and egrets.
The park's pair of White-tailed Kites has not been seen since 7 October.
Burrowing Owls have been seen recently at 3 sites in the park.
The first American Crows of the season began appearing 18 October. Thousands of crows and Chihuahuan Ravens are now roosting at the park each night.
