Sean McCarthy
Lecturer
Biographical Sketch:
I joined the department as a lecturer in late 2025 after completing his PhD (The Catholic University of America, 2025). My research interests largely track with the interests of Charles Taylor. In my MA thesis from 2018, I sought to synthesize Taylor's Ethics of Authenticity with contemporary work in virtue ethics. My dissertation aims to resolve a tension between Taylor's philosophy of language and his philosophy of experience or mind. I have also written on the Aristotelian commitments in Taylor's work. More generally, I find the phenomenological and hermeneutical movements as able to recover insights from ancient and medieval philosophical sources.
