Hunt Business Students Earn Top Recognition in International ASCM Competition

The Big Picture
A Hunt Business student team earned first-place recognition and a cash prize in an international ASCM competition after presenting an operations improvement project developed with STRATTEC Security Corporation.
The team represented Hunt Business and the student chapter of ASCM — the Association for Supply Chain Management — in a competition focused on operations, innovation and supply chain excellence.
Why It Matters
The competition gave students a direct look at real operational challenges in manufacturing and supply chain management.
Working with STRATTEC professionals, students evaluated bottlenecks, repeated handling, paperwork delays, staging issues and safety concerns inside a receiving process.
Their proposal used lean operations and continuous flow principles to make the process more efficient and easier to manage.
Who Participated
The Hunt Business team included:
- Gabriel Meraz
- Alejandra Galindo
- Valerie Salas
- Diego Rivera
The team represented Hunt Business and ASCM while competing against students from New Mexico State University and Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez.
The Takeaway
Their project examined STRATTEC’s receiving operations and proposed a redesigned workflow to reduce waste, improve efficiency and strengthen performance in a manufacturing environment.
The project earned first-place recognition, a cash prize and the opportunity to attend the CHAiNGE Conference in Long Beach, California.
It also showed how Hunt Business students are applying classroom knowledge to real industry problems through employer partnerships and professional organizations like ASCM.
